Board Member Roles and Responsibilities

General Board Member: 

There are 4 general board members positions available. The 5th seat is held by the head coach of the SCRC Juniors Team. Board members attend the meetings and vote to make the decisions that decide how the club functions. Each member takes on a project during the year such as directing the masters LTR program, coordinating membership inquiries, managing site maintenance or fundraising.

Officers

President:

  1. Preside at all meetings.
  2. Be Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
  3.  Administer Board functions.
  4. Coordinate all club activities.
  5. Develop and maintain relationships with external entities and stakeholders.

Vice President:

  1. In the absence or inability of the President to serve, assume the powers of that Office.
  2. Serve as chairperson of the Board of Directors, as needed.
  3. Serve as or appoint a Boat Captain who shall be responsible for or delegate any work for repairs and maintenance of the fleet and equipment which includes: establish standards for the care and use of the club fleet and equipment, allocate space on racks for winter/summer storage, and investigate charges of gross negligence towards club equipment or consistent violation of club standards, with right of appeal to the Board of Directors as set forth in Article 10 of the Articles of Incorporation.

Treasurer:  

  1. Maintains an accounting of all club financial accounts and activities. 
  2. Plans and coordinates club responsibilities for tax preparation, auditing and review.
  3. Participates in club budget planning activities and advises the board and designated committees on matters related to the budget, financial policies and procedures.
  4. Prepares a detailed report of SCRC financial activities for distribution to all members at membership.

Secretary:
Note: This is a role that requires a technical ability and familiarity with tools such as Constant Contact, iCrew, Google Forms, Word Press (for web design/update), Excel, Word, and Acrobat. This role has also become one that handles our Social Media feeds too so an understanding of Instagram & Facebook is helpful. 

  1.  Is responsible for preparing complete and accurate minutes of the meetings.
  2. Distributes draft meeting minutes of Board meetings to all Board members and prepares revised minutes for final approval at the next Board meeting.
  3. Coordinates the planning, preparation and operation of elections and voting
  4. Reviews, coordinates and maintains all club correspondence
  5. Maintains membership database (or designates as appropriate).
