Upcoming Events

The weather has not been cooperating lately! We have had everything from cold to rain to high wind! Hopefully we will get some summer-like conditions soon so we can have some time on the water! Due to the weather, we had to cancel the membership meeting that had been scheduled on May 13. The Board will set a new date for the membership meeting in the near future.

Upcoming Events:

SPLASH Regatta & National LTR Day

We will have our intra-club regatta Saturday, June 3rd from 9 am to approximately noon. This will be a fun event open to all members of the club. We can set boats the day of the event, however, if you have a set crew that would like to race, we can find a competitor.

  • If you would like to race or to help out with the event, please contact me at [email protected]. We would like to gauge the interest level for this event.

Swan Creek Learn to Row Open House will also take place at the same date and time (this coincides with National LTR Day.) We have invited those who contacted the club about learning to row to stop by on June 3rd to check out what we do at SCRC! For this year’s program we have a coach in place, Kate Castonguay, who will run the program this year. The Adult LTR will start around June 17 and run for ten, two hour sessions. If you know someone who would like to take up rowing, or would be willing to help with the program, please contact Julia Gearhart at [email protected].

Paddle Battle

I am awaiting final details from the event committee. The event will take place late afternoon/early evening on June 2nd, followed by the Friday night fireworks. The Bucks County Dragon Boat Association is hosting the event in which SCRC and the Steamboat SPLASH are participating. As mentioned earlier, Swan Creek will participate in the event by having two races (~500m each). To date, we have participation by the youth and a handful of masters’ rowers. If you want to be part of the event, please contact me at [email protected].

Youth Sculling Race At Rutgers, 5/21/2017

Westfield High School Crew hosted a sculling scrimmage at the Rutgers Boathouse on Sunday afternoon. Eight participants from the Swan Creek youth program raced doubles and quads 1000 meters on the Raritan River. Races were held in heats of three boats. No times were taken.

The tidal flow and a brisk wind made the conditions somewhat challenging, however our youth conquered the course and won almost all of their races.

Crews were as follows:

Boys Freshman/Novice 2X 2:00 – First Place!

Hayden Baker
Ryan Stack

Girls Freshman/Novice 4x 2:15 – First Place!

Shelby Williford
Janine LeChien
Maddie Wanzer
Marlaina Webster

Boys JV/SR 2x 2:30 (raced varsity boys for a close 2nd)

Michael Rahtz
Ian Fitzsimmons

Girls Freshman/Novice 2x 3:00

Shelby Williford
Janine LeChein (first time ever in bow…well done!)

Girls Varsity 4x 3:30 – First Place!

Shelby Williford
Janine LeChien
Maddie Wanzer
Marlaina Webster

Many thanks to Westfield Head Coach Robert Greenwood for his generous invitation to use Westfield boats and equipment. No Rigging or De-rigging! A fun day had by all!
