Good News from Youth Team!

Got some good stories from the youth this weekend.

Mackenzie King competed in the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships on Sunday, in a 1x. And she came 2nd! Less than 3 seconds behind the winner. She said that the water was perfect, a great opportunity to show her power over the 2k course at Mercer rather than struggle with tough conditions after only a few sessions on the water. To her credit she’s been out in the 1x less than 10 times so far this year so to get a placing at such a major competition shows her potential.

You can see the race on youtube. The commentator gets quite excited as Mackenzie moves up into 2nd just after 1000m mark.

Mackenzies race starts at the 10.20 mark.

2015 Mid Atlantic Youth Championships

Great easy technique and well timed moves on her competitors. Well done Mack!

Also Brendan Falk, a graduate from last years LTR has been selected to represent USA for The International Dragon Boat Federations U16 squad. The International Dragon Boat Federation holds World Championships every other year – rotating the hosting among 30+ member countries.  This year, it is being hosted by Canada at a site near Niagara Falls. Brendan will likely compete in a boys boat as well a mixed boys/girls boat with 11-19 other U16 “paddlers” (including a drummer and a steerer), depending on what races they enter.

The competition runs from August 19-23, but they arrive earlier to practice and there’s an opening and a closing ceremony.  If you’re curious for more, here’s the link to the World Championship event site:  www.wdbrc2015.ca
