“New Hope Dragon Boat Team Rescues Rowing Club Members After Scull Flips in Delaware” article by Renée Kiriluk-Hill/Hunterdon Democrat, May 12, 2014

LAMBERTVILLE — A women’s team training in a dragon boat rescued four women whose sculling boat flipped yesterday under the New Hope-Lambertville free bridge.

A tree carried downstream in recent storms hung up on a bridge pier and may have contributed to the boating accident.

New Hope Police Officer Steven Gruber responded to the report of a flipped boat at 9:33 a.m., and reported that the rowers were taken aboard the second boat and brought to the boat ramp in Lambertville, near the Swan Creek Rowing Club grounds.

Relentless Dragon Boat Association had a women’s team on the river at the same time, and that boat took on the four rowers, reported Susan Grau, a drummer for the dragon boat team.

She said that Relentless coach Bill Heffernan freed the scull and secured it so that the women on the Relentless boat could bring the women and the damaged scull to the shore.
