SPLASH Mark Twain Cruise 7/9/2016

Our co-partner in the Delaware River Recreation Foundation, the SPLASH Steamboat, is offering a “Mark Twain Cruise” on July 9th, 2016.

On July 9 Mark Twain will regale the masses with witty tales and lively anecdotes aboard the Steamboat SPLASH. He will do this in willful disregard of the fact he died in 1910. Twain is wont to ramble on about his boyhood memories, the newspaper publishing business, life on the Mississippi and frogs. Mostly, though, he likes to talk about the river.

Storyteller Charles Kiernan, now retired from gainful employment, performs at theatres, listening clubs, schools, libraries, and arts festivals and is the recipient of the 2008 Individual Artist Award from the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission.

Youth SPLASH Event

The Youth program got to clamber aboard the legendary SPLASH steamboat last weekend! Eric and his team took us through the history of our little patch of the Delaware including the history of the Shad, the improved ecology and water quality and Washington’s crossing, as well as the mechanics of the engine. Our gracious hosts asked the youth many questions too, they learned about the river from our perspective. Many masters crews joined us out on the water, it was great to see them against the rising fog and lingering history. We aim to make it an annual event, please let us know if you would like to join us on next years trip! Thank you to SPLASH, Eric and the team.
